Lee Roy Selmon's story is a mix of the football scholarship of his parents and a commitment to his community. First, his familial. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. He and his wife raised nine children on an Eufala farm. In football, he was with three of his brothers from Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. One year 1973 Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award and the Lombardi Award for being the nation's best lineman. During his three-year tenure as Oklahoma's starting quarterback and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and won two national championships. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon is a graduate of the University of Michigan with a degree in educational studies. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering throughout his time at college. Following college, he moved to Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers were an all-pro three times before beginning an entrepreneurial career. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank. It's no wonder in 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce named Lee Roy as one of America's most outstanding young males. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 7-foot-2. In his time at college, he was the captain of the team of 1975. In 1993, Roy joined the university of south Fla's athletic department as the Director of Athletics as an associate. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988 the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation presented the Distinguished American Award, to Mr. Lucious Selmon and his wife. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma was the person who presented the award.
