Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on January. 19. 1946 into a very low-income family, with twelve kids eventually included, discovered early that she could escape her hardships through a vivid imagination. The songs she wrote were composed before she could write or read. In the year she turned eight, she bought her first electric guitar and began to sing at the Knoxville Tenn Radio Station. In the same year, she recorded her first record on Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. In high school She made her mark locally but dreamed about a larger stage. The day she graduated from high school, it was 1964. Dumb Blonde (1967) and Something Fishy (1968) were her first two charting albums for Monument Records. Porter Wagoner began looking for new female vocalists for his syndicated television program at about the exact time. Parton took the offer and in the year 1967, she signed with RCA Records in 1968 and joined with the Grand Ole Opry in 1969. The band split in 1974 when her solo singles such as Joshua Coat of Many Colors & Jolene beat out the collaborations. Parton, after the split of their collaboration with Wagoner she wrote the song I Will Always Love You and saw it climb to No. The first time it reached number 1 was in 1974.
