Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian has been a Canadian and American feminist media analyst for more than twenty years. She is also an accomplished public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a channel that hosts videos, comments and an analysis of the way in which popular culture portrays women. Anita Sarkeesian a Canadian American media critic. Feminist Frequency is a non-for profit educational site that explores gender representation in popular culture narratives - is created and directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to dispel the myths related to women in popular culture, she also works on issues related the gender-specific harassment of women as well as different classes of individuals online. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she's extremely sought-after and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. She was interested in gender issues and feminism from a very young age. When she graduated in 2009, in university she started her Feminist Frequency website. An ambitious woman who wanted to start a web-series examining the gender-based representation in video games was targeted by an internet-based campaign. However, the attacks did not hinder her. It only strengthened her as a journalist who is feminist. She is a recipient of many awards for her contributions to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the co-founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit that explores the representations of women in pop media narratives.
